Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What topics might I explore with a coach?
A: The coaching relationship and what is discussed during a session is based on the client's individual needs and interests. Some common themes include: work-life balance, dissatisfaction in personal or professional life, time management, romantic relationships, finances, family, health goals, long term projects, job searches, transitions, etc. It's up to you to decide what to bring up, and everything that you discuss with a life coach is confidential. An effective coach will work with you to create a plan for a better, more fulfilling life for yourself -- whether your goal is to start a business, move across the country, write a book, or transition into a new leadership role at work smoothly.
Q: What will my coach work on with me?
A: Among other things, as your coach, I will work with you to help you:
· explore and discover your values, dreams, and what fulfills you
· deepen learning about yourself, what you want, how you make choices, your view of the world
· get “unstuck”
· determine the best course of action based on where you are and your vision for the future
· create action plans to assist in your life’s forward movement
· hold you accountable for things you say you want/want to do
· empower you to become more resourceful over time rather than more dependent on a coach or others for answers
· be the best “you”!
Q: Can I be coached over the phone?
A: Yes, I work with my coaching clients over the phone, therefore location is not a factor. Phone calls offer maximum convenience, efficiency, privacy, and furthermore, the opportunity for the coach/client to truly focus on what the other person is saying.
Q: What does a sample coaching session entail?
A: An exploratory session or sample coaching session is the first “taste” of coaching that you’ll have. It will last up to 45 minutes, and will give you a chance to understand why people prefer coaching over other forms of professional/personal support, and for us to get a feel for what it might be like to work together. The exploratory session is free of charge; however if coaching feels right to you, you may decide to sign up to work with me. Signing up for a free sample coaching session is easy!
Q: How long/how frequent are coaching sessions?
A: Coaching sessions are generally in the form of 45-minute in-depth phone calls 2 to 3 times per month.
Q: What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
A: Generally, therapists are trained to diagnose individuals and work to heal emotional wounds. Coaches are not trained to do so; they consider their clients to be naturally creative, resourceful and whole (not broken), and look forward with the client into the future (not the past).
Q: Will I have to tell you what animal I would be?
A: No. (Not unless you want to!) While coaching includes a good amount of getting in touch with your values, dreams, who you want to be and what you want your life to look like, together, we determine the "style" of our coaching relationship. If you are into methods such as meditation and visioning, we can incorporate more of this into our sessions. If you are more results-oriented, we can focus on these aspects. The great thing about coaching is that it is highly customizable to each client and situation, even from one session to the next.
Q: What does coaching cost?
A: I encourage my clients not to think of coaching as a cost "per hour," but for the coaching relationship and the support that the relationship provides during the coaching engagement. Clients are welcome to reach out via email if they are experiencing a particularly challenging situation or need a quick additional coaching call outside of the standard coaching arrangement. After we have our free sample coaching session, if you decide that you are interested in working with me, we can discuss pricing.
Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a free sample coaching session.
